Drone use in Da Nang requires a separate permit from the Ministry of Defense, even if you already hold a standard filming permit. The two permits are issued by different government bodies.

The application requires operator details, drone specifications, flight coordinates, and a schedule of use. Certain areas near Da Nang International Airport, military installations along the coast, Son Tra Peninsula, and parts of Hoi An Ancient Town may be restricted or require additional approvals. Operating a drone without a permit in Vietnam carries serious consequences, including fines, confiscation, and potential blacklisting.

Da Nang, Hoi An, and Hue offer outstanding aerial opportunities, from coastline and mountain passes to river deltas and heritage architecture. Yes. Military zones, government buildings, certain coastal areas near Da Nang International Airport, and sensitive public spaces have restrictions on filming. Some require additional permits. Others cannot be filmed at all.

Hoi An Ancient Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has its own set of filming regulations managed by the local heritage authority. Permits, fees, and restrictions on equipment and crew size apply. Hue’s imperial citadel and royal tombs carry similar heritage-level requirements.

In most cases, yes. Da Nang has its own international airport with direct flights from Singapore, Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai, and other major cities, which simplifies equipment logistics compared to routing everything through Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi.

If you are a small crew with mid-size professional equipment, arrival is generally straightforward. When a film permit is in place, we liaise with customs in advance so equipment inspections go smoothly.

Vietnam is not a carnet country, which makes temporarily importing large equipment more complex and more expensive. For most productions, it is more practical and cost-effective to rent equipment locally. Da Nang’s rental market is smaller than Ho Chi Minh City’s, but we coordinate equipment from our Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi partners and have it delivered to your Da Nang location before your crew arrives.

Da Nang’s dedicated studio infrastructure is still developing compared to Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. However, there are options for smaller studio setups, and many productions in Da Nang and Hoi An use practical locations, resorts, hotels, and private spaces as controlled shooting environments.

Da Nang and Hoi An have a different weather pattern from Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. The best filming window runs from February through August, with the driest and most consistent conditions typically between March and June.

September through November brings the heaviest rainfall, and October and November carry the highest risk of flooding and typhoons. This period is best avoided for outdoor productions unless you have schedule flexibility.

December and January are cooler and occasionally overcast but generally workable. Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Year, usually late January or early February) reduces crew availability significantly across all of Vietnam. Plan around it.
