Advanced Rice Processing Infrastructure in Ho Chi Minh City
Services Provided
Burkhard, Buhler’s global head of communications, contacted us to tell the story of their first major rice milling implementation in Vietnam. Phung Hoang Rice, a family owned mill in the Mekong Delta, had invested in a fully automated Buhler processing line to meet international food safety standards and access export markets they could not enter before. The film needed to work as proof of concept at trade shows across Southeast Asia, particularly Thailand.
We researched the technical story, from the SORTEX optical sorting technology to the food safety requirements that had kept Phung Hoang locked out of export markets, and built the narrative around why this investment changed the trajectory of the business.
- Creative concept built around Buhler’s engineering story and Phung Hoang’s export ambitions

Description
Phung Hoang Rice is a family owned company in the Mekong Delta, the region that produces 25 million tonnes of rice a year. CEO Hong Thi Bich Tuyen had a straightforward problem: outdated processing technology meant her rice could not meet the food safety standards required for export to Europe and the Middle East. She invested in a fully automated Buhler line capable of processing 400 tonnes of wet paddy per day, and the business went from locked out of international markets to exporting premium branded rice.
The facility runs four SORTEX S UltraVision optical sorters that check 20 million rice kernels per minute for discoloration or contamination. That precision was the heart of the story for this Vietnam factory video. Buhler was proving that Swiss engineered food processing could work in Vietnam’s rice sector and open markets that cheaper machinery never could.
Buhler took this testimonial video to trade shows in Thailand and used it across Southeast Asia as proof of what their technology delivers in a real facility. It directly contributed to four more rice milling projects in Vietnam after buyers saw the Phung Hoang results on screen. One of those facilities is now the largest rice processing plant in the world.
